Deck Boat In Ocean

Re: hurricane deckboats in open ocean? it's all relative. my friend had a 22' stingray deckboat. nice boat, lots of fun. but even in the chesapeake bay in a tight 1' chop, the boat banged around a lot.. Many of the replies were that deck boats should not be taken into the ocean because of their shallow dead-rise (some said you need at least 20 degrees). i'd like to get some experienced hurricane owner's take on it. i know this is a relative question because in my younger, and crazier days, i've taken a 10ft. jon boat out.. The main part of puget sound (where it connects to the ocean).... not a chance in hell would i get caught on a deck boat. the water can turn from smooth to 8-10 footers in less than an hour. in water that big, my v-hull was too small..

Tough questions, i boat in the gulf of mexico a lot. here are some quick answers. 1. how do pontoons deal with routine ocean swells, etc.? (answer: seas 2' or less, just fine, they will break on your bow, and wash right off the deck.. 2016 hurricane cc21, 2016 hurricane cc21 powered with a suzuki df175. included with the boat is a sport trail tandem aluminum trailer , dual batt switch , boat cover , bow table , bow cushion lounge , fishing seat , infinity bluetooth stereo , porta potti , ski tow bar , ss rub rail .. I had six people on board and the boat did great in the four footers and pretty well in the occasional six footers. naturally, i was only going about 8 mph. never took any water over the bow (except for a few splashes). granted, i don't often boat in those conditions, but felt the sd2000 handled it very well. steve.
